BBQ Turkey Burgers with Grilled Onions
Uncooked 93% lean ground turkey
2 medium, sliced
5 Tbsp, divided
¾ tsp, divided
½ medium, sweet, cut into 4 (1⁄2-inch-thick) rounds
Weight Watchers Reduced fat Mexican style shredded cheese
Light whole wheat English muffin(s)
4 item(s), toasted
4 leaf/leaves, large, or 1 cup shredded romaine
½ large, cut into 4 thick slices
- Off heat, coat grill rack or grill pan with nonstick spray. Preheat gas grill or grill pan to medium-high, or prepare medium-high fire in charcoal grill.
- In medium bowl, mix turkey, scallions, breadcrumbs, 3 tbsp plus 2 tsp barbecue sauce, and 1⁄2 tsp salt. Using damp hands (to prevent meat from sticking), form turkey into 4 (1⁄2-inch-thick) patties. Coat onion with nonstick spray and sprinkle with remaining 1⁄4 tsp salt.
- Grill patties and onion, turning once, until instant-read thermometer registers 165°F when inserted horizontally into patties and onion is lightly charred and tender, about 10 minutes. Transfer onion to plate. Turn off heat on gas grill (or grill pan), or move burgers to cooler side of charcoal grill. Sprinkle each burger with 1 tbsp cheese. Close lid and cook until cheese melts, about 1 minute.
- Build burgers with muffins, lettuce, tomato slices, patties, remaining barbecue sauce, and onion rounds.
