You’ll love this combination of bold spice with the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes. Cooking the spuds in the air fryer (even in two batches) takes much less time than oven cooking, and produces an alluring and irresistible texture—both crispy and chewy-tender at the same time. Be sure to cut the potatoes into thin “batons” so they cook quickly and evenly. To keep the first batch warm and fresh as the second batch cooks, arrange the fries on a sheet pan and keep them in an oven set to 250°F.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Uncooked sweet potato

1 pound(s)

Canola oil

2 tsp

Chili powder

1 tsp

Kosher salt

½ tsp

Cayenne pepper

tsp

Instructions

  1. Cut the potatoes in half lengthwise. Arrange each half, cut side down, on a cutting board; cut lengthwise into ¼-inch-thick planks. Stack the planks and cut lengthwise into ¼-inch strips. Place the potato strips in a large bowl and drizzle with oil; toss well to coat. Sprinkle the chili powder, salt, and cayenne pepper over the potatoes; toss well to coat.
  2. Preheat an air fryer, if necessary, to 375°F. Coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange half of the potatoes in the basket. Air-fry at 375°F until browned and cooked through, about 10 minutes, stopping to shake the basket (and toss the fries) after 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes.
  3. Serving size: a scant 1 cup
