This beloved drink was a favorite of the namesake golfer, a combination of unsweetened ice tea and lemonade—a beverage that’s not too sweet, but pleasantly tart. His wife, Winnie, preferred sweet tea with lemonade, so the Winnie Palmer drink is that sweeter version. Here, we make our own iced tea and lemonade for the best flavor. It’s worth the tiny bit of effort involved.

Ingredients

Tea bag

5 item(s), black tea variety

Ice cube

2 cup(s), plus more for serving

Monk fruit sweetener with erythritol

½ cup(s)

Fresh lemon juice

cup(s)

Lemon

8 slice(s), optional

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the tea bags, remove the pan from the heat, and allow the mixture to steep for 5 minutes. Add 2 cups of ice and stir until dissolved (to quickly cool down the tea). Add enough cool water for the tea to measure 4 cups.
  2. Meanwhile, in a 4-cup measuring cup, combine the monk fruit sweetener and 2 cups of room temperature water; stir until dissolved. Add the lemon juice and 1 ⅓ cups cool water; stir to combine. In a large pitcher, stir together the lemonade and the tea. Serve in mason jars or tall glasses with lots of ice. Garnish with lemon slices, if desired.
  3. Serving size: 1 cup (before ice)
