This sandwich features all the fabulous flavors of a typical Italian sub but in a much more sensible size. The shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, and diced red onion are tossed with the oil, red wine vinegar, and seasonings, ensuring you get those flavors in each bite. You could add banana peppers, roasted red peppers, or jarred giardiniera if you like to change up the flavors while still remaining true to the classic sub. Make sure to toast the buns so they do not get soggy when filled. Instead of a hot dog bun, you can also serve these in pitas.
