Grilled pineapple adds a sweet balance to these savory burgers. Serve them bunless or turn them into sandwiches. The pineapple caramelizes on the grill, making a sweet contrast to the savory teriyaki seasoning. We recommend cooking the burgers quickly on high heat. Make sure that they are cooked through, but don't overcook. And many people make the mistake of mashing the burgers on the grill when cooking them because it squeezes out all the juices. Serve these burgers with an Asian slaw or fresh fruit.

Ingredients
Uncooked 93% lean ground beef
1 pound(s)
Scallions
¼ cup(s), chopped or sliced, sliced
Teriyaki sauce
3 Tbsp
Fresh ginger
1 Tbsp, freshly grated
Jarred minced garlic
2 tsp
Pineapple
4 slice(s), four 1/2-inch-thick rings
Vidalia onion
½ medium, cut into four 1/4-inch-thick rounds
Cooking spray
4 spray(s)
Cilantro
¼ cup(s), fresh, chopped
Instructions
1
Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high.
2
In a medium bowl, combine beef, scallions, teriyaki sauce, ginger and garlic until thoroughly mixed; form into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.
3
Off heat, lightly coat burgers, pineapple and onion with cooking spray; place on grill. (Never spray cooking spray onto an open flame.)
4
Grill pineapple, turning once, until lightly charred, about 4 minutes; remove from grill and cover to keep warm. Grill burgers and onions, turning once, until burgers are desired degree of doneness and onions are lightly charred and tender, about 7 to 9 minutes.
5
To serve, place 1 burger on each of 4 plates. Top each with 1 slice of onion (separated into rings) and 1 slice of pineapple; sprinkle each with 1 tablespoon of cilantro. Yields 1 burger per serving.
