The layered effect here gives this nonalcoholic sipper an elegant, fancy feel. You get those distinct layers by spooning a “heavy” syrup made from reduced cranberry juice into the bottom of the glass, then topping with a seltzer-limeade combo. The density of the syrup keeps it on the bottom of the glass—until you stir everything together, that is.

Ingredients

Low-calorie cranberry juice cocktail

1 cup(s)

Ice cube

3 cup(s)

Limeade

8 fl oz, sparkling variety recommended, chilled

Unsweetened flavored seltzer

8 fl oz, lime variety, chilled

Lime wedge

4 wedge(s), optional

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the cranberry juice to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and cook, uncovered, until the juice is syrupy and reduced to ¼ cup, 8 to 10 minutes. Pour 2 tablespoons of the cranberry syrup into each of 2 tall collins glasses or tumblers. Fill each glass with 1 ½ cups ice. Pour ½ cup limeade and ½ cup seltzer into each glass. Garnish with lime wedges, if desired.
  2. Serving size: 1 1/8 cups (before ice)
