This easy version of Chinese barbecue sauce can be whipped up in less than 15 minutes and it is great on shrimp, chicken, pork tenderloin, and pork chops. Once prepared, the sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up two weeks. This batch makes about 1½ cups, but you can double or halve the recipe as needed.

Ingredients

Hoisin sauce

½ cup(s)

Ketchup

½ cup(s)

Ginger ale

4 fl oz

Unseasoned rice vinegar

2 Tbsp

Five-spice powder

½ tsp

Garlic powder

¼ tsp

Instructions

In small saucepan, cook all ingredients over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sauce starts to simmer. Reduce heat to low and cook to desired consistency, about 5 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Store sauce in covered plastic or glass container and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
