Dawn
I am beyond thankful for the change in my life thanks to Weight Watchers. It isn't always the easiest but it is worth every up and down along the way.
My name is Dawn and I am a 30-year-old stay-at-home mom living in Trail, BC with my husband and two kids (Grace, 5 and Logan, 3)
I joined Weight Watchers Online in May 2015 after having two kids and struggling with my weight long enough. Logan was a hard baby (he was sick a lot) and I had a toddler running around, so I was in survival mode for almost two years. I looked in the mirror at this mom who just hated her life and wasn't happy with herself, and I realized it was time to take care of myself. The scale was at a number I didn't like and the Weight Watchers Beyond the Scale program was exactly what I needed in my life. I wanted to create a lifestyle that would stay with me…healthy, fit and happy! It's been almost two years and I can say I did exactly what I set out to do; I am down 71lbs and 9lbs more to go thanks to Weight Watchers and there is NO turning back!!
I am a busy mom (my hubby works a lot), and I used to skip breakfast a lot as I didn't have time with getting kids organized and ready. However, now I make sure I am eating properly as we need to start the day on a good note. I have calculated SmartPoints for a year-and-a-half, but then decided to change things up a little and switched over to Simply Filling in November. At first I was nervous, as here I am again doing something new, but I quickly realized how WW has another program that's easy to follow and works!
This is my go to breakfast and is 100 per cent Simply Filling…which Logan loves to eat as much as I do…
- 2 eggs (4SP)
- 2 egg whites (0SP)
- Green Pepper/Onion (0SP)
- 3 Slices Back Bacon (1SP)
Want it to look like you have more on your plate then you do? Switch to a lunch sized plate for all your meals!
I believe that fitness is different for everyone. Some people LOVE it whereas others hate it…I can honestly say I'm right in the middle!! Most of the time I love getting a good workout in (normally right when I wake up), as it sets the tone for my day. I feel happier, more energetic, ready to just kick butt. Of course, I also love what it does for my body. I am stronger, have more energy, lost inches when the scale didn't want to move. Scott helped me make a home gym in our house so I always have somewhere to workout, but my fav way to get fitness in is putting my headphone in and heading outside for a good walk!
My best advice for fitness would be just to start. Start small and work your way up! Get a Fitbit to help you keep track of how much you move. Go for a walk around the block and adding more distance every time you go out. It might not be right away, but your body will thank you for the exercise!
My weight loss journey has completely changed my family's life as well. I make sure I don't miss a moment or opportunity to do something new with them. I feel the difference, but my kids for sure feel it too. Now I do everything from taking them to the park, running around outside, even just sitting on the floor playing with them. There is nothing better than the endless possibilities you can partake in once you get to a healthier weight.
I used to put everyone ahead of me, but I now make sure to always make time for myself! A half-hour of alone time is better than nothing when you always have kids demanding something. Anyone who follows me on my Instagram (@life.as.dawn) knows that I LOVE coffee, so I'll make my fav latte (100% Simply Filling; 3SP for skim milk), sit down with a book (total book nerd), or bullet journal. I get asked what I like to read a lot and honestly, I love romance books, but will pretty much read any type of book as long as there is a good story line and pulls me into their world!
One thing I try to remind myself often is how far I've come in this journey! Yes I have lost 71lbs, but there is so much more I have gained along the way. I love myself more than I ever have, I love shopping again, healthy food is best for my body (but chocolate and wine are good too). It's all about balance and figuring out what works best for you.
The hardest part is taking the first step. Whether you want to attend meetings or just do it online you won't regret it. I am an online member and have been since I started, and posting my journey was the best thing I did as it opened a new world of support and encouragement. I have made best friends through the community who I talk to everyday, and people message me telling me how much I inspire them (something I never thought possible).
