This recipe offers a fun way to jazz up your usual French toast with a little holiday flair. Rich spices and a hint of molasses imbue the dish with sweet, festive flavour. The spiced yogurt drizzle lends a tangy-sweet finish with far less sugar than a pour of syrup.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Plain unsweetened almond milk

¾ cup(s)

Molasses

3 tbsp(s), or maple syrup, divided

Ground ginger

1 tsp(s), divided

Ground cinnamon

1 tsp(s), divided

Egg

3 large

Reduced-calorie whole wheat bread

8 slice(s)

Plain fat free Greek yogurt

cup(s)

Plain unsweetened almond milk

1 tbsp(s)

Instructions

  1. In a large, shallow dish, combine ¾ cup almond milk, 1 tbsp molasses, a scant tsp ginger ¾ tsp cinnamon, and eggs; whisk until well blended. Dip each slice of the bread into the egg mixture, turning several times to coat.
  2. Coat a large griddle or nonstick skillet with cooking spray. Heat the griddle or pan over medium heat. Add the bread slices, cooking in batches if necessary. Cook, turning once, until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the yogurt, 1 tbsp almond milk, and the remaining 2 tbsp molasses, ⅛ tsp ginger, and ¼ tsp cinnamon. Drizzle the yogurt mixture over the French toast.
  4. Serving size: 2 pieces French toast and about 1 ½ tbsp yogurt drizzle
