What is Zepbound?
Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a medication that mimics two hormones: glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). These hormones are produced naturally in the body and help regulate appetite and food intake by working on both the gut and the brain. Zepbound is a once-weekly injectable medication FDA-approved for weight management.
How does Zepbound work?
What makes tirzepatide unique is that it doesn’t just target one hormone, it targets two. By mimicking the effects of both GLP-1 and GIP, Zepbound has a powerful combined effect in your body. It slows digestion and decreases appetite, which can help individuals eat less and lose weight.
What is the difference between the single-dose injectable pen, single-dose vial, and KwikPen?
All Zepbound formats are FDA-approved for weight management, are available in the same doses, and have the same efficacy and side effects.
The main differences are:
Zepbound vials are administered with a separate needle and syringe, and can be shipped directly to you through LillyDirect®. Vials are only available via cash pay and are not eligible for insurance coverage.
Zepbound single-dose pens are prefilled auto-injector pens that contain 1 dose. Single dose pens are available via cash pay and are eligible for insurance coverage.
Zepbound KwikPens are new, all-in-one prefilled auto-injector pens that contain 4 doses. KwikPens are only available via cash pay and are not eligible for insurance coverage.
Is Zepbound covered by insurance?
Your Clinic Care Team will work directly with your insurance provider to help you navigate your coverage of this GLP-1 medication. The cost of the medication is not included as part of the Weight Watchers Med+ membership and insurance coverage may vary.
At this time, our Insurance Coordinators can only work with commercial insurance plans.
This means that all members with government-sponsored insurance, on a Kaiser plan, or who do not have insurance will either have to pay out-of-pocket for a GLP-1 medication or use one of the prescription options that do not require insurance and are fully covered in the cost of Weight Watchers Med+ membership.
If you continue, you will be evaluated for the membership-included medications to see if your Clinician thinks you're a good fit, or choose to pay without insurance for GLP-1 medications. The Zepbound vial and KwikPen are not available through insurance at this time.
weight loss*

Zepbound mimics two natural hormones, GLP-1 and GIP, to help you feel full and reduce hunger. This can help individuals eat less, leading to an average weight loss of 21% when combined with diet and exercise.
apnea

The FDA has also approved Zepbound to treat moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults with obesity.
*Eligible patients lost an average of 21% of their body weight (-48 lbs) in a 72-week clinical trial evaluating 15 mg tirzepatide, when paired with diet and exercise. ^Based on a three-year clinical trial study (176-week treatment period) sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company, weekly injections of tirzepatide significantly reduced the risk of progression to type 2 diabetes by 94% in adults with prediabetes who were overweight or obese compared to placebo.

After 1 year, Med+ members prescribed weight management medications who added the WW Points program lost 8% more weight than Med+ members who did not.**
**Based on observational study of 1400 Clinic members who added the WW Points program to their membership and lost -17.7% body weight on average, compared to 2606 Clinic members who did not start a WW membership during this timeframe and lost -16.4% body weight on average.
