COULDN’T. LOVE. MORE.
WW × Better’n Peanut Butter

If there’s one thing #TeamCrunchy or #TeamCreamy can agree on, it’s that few foods are as inextricably linked to our childhood as peanut butter is. Whether you got excited to find a PB&J in your lunch box or couldn’t wait to enjoy sliced apples with peanut butter as an after-school snack, the classic spread, for so many reasons, still makes us smile.

As an adult, I occasionally rely on peanut butter for an easy, delicious protein boost, whether it’s blended into my smoothie or eaten straight from the jar with a spoon if I’m rushing out the door. On less hurried mornings, I’ll smear it on a toasted whole-wheat English muffin and top it with sliced bananas.

I consider myself a peanut butter purist, but as a food writer, I’ve sampled just about every iteration of nut butter—especially the “healthier” types—over the years. While I love how some are lower in calories and fat than regular peanut butter, I don’t love how they tend to be chalky and bland. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Were there any nuts in them at all?”

Let’s also talk texture: If the jar didn’t have a pool of oil at the top, it housed peanut butter so lumpy and dry, it was impossible to spread.

So when I picked up the new WW × Better’n Peanut Butter Original Peanut Spread, I admittedly was skeptical. At 100 calories per serving of 2 tablespoons, this spread is a mere 3 PersonalPoints™ per serving—that’s half the Points® of regular PB and with 84% less fat and 47% fewer calories.* It also contains no saturated fats and is dairy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO. Surely, this had to…not taste great.

To my surprise and delight, WW × Better’n Peanut Butter actually tastes sweeter than most traditional peanut butters. It’s reminiscent of honey roasted peanuts, and the sweetness delivers such great flavor that I can use only a fraction of the dollop I’d normally use. I’d even guess that if you baked something using the WW spread in place of conventional peanut butter, you’d be able to cut down the amount of calories and fat in the recipe.

But what I’m most sold on is the texture: WW × Better’n Peanut Butter is so, so smooth and spreads like a dream—no shredded bread! And unlike some nut butters that solidify into rocky chunks and require major muscles to stir, the WW peanut butter has never separated. It effortlessly blends into my overnight oats recipe and keeps its buttery consistency even after the mix has been in the fridge for several hours.

If it’s a decadent, chocolaty-er treat you’re after, there’s WW × Better’n Peanut Butter Chocolate Peanut Spread, which has only 3 grams of sugar (86% less than most cocoa-hazelnut spreads).** I like to swirl it on toast with sliced bananas, use it to create my own take on chocolate-covered strawberries, or dip pretzels into it for a sweet ’n’ salty treat. I may even try making chocolate–peanut butter brownies using it—you know, for nostalgia’s sake.
