Combine the fresh ingredients of basil, lemon juice and herbs to create the ultimate refreshing cocktail. This cocktail isn't reserved for just summertime. It's also perfect for the holidays or any time of the year. Gin pairs beautifully with fresh herbs so you could also use another herb in this recipe such as fresh mint and rosemary. Muddle don't mash! With a muddler, which resembles a wooden pestle or with a wooden spoon, lightly crush the basil leaves, giving the muddler a few gentle twists as you go. When the basil aroma wafts into the air you're done.

Ingredients

Basil

cup(s), lightly packed leaves, or Thai, lemon leaves plus small sprigs or leaves for garnish

Gin

8 fl oz

Fresh lemon juice

½ cup(s)

Nectar (any type)

3 Tbsp, light agave, or up to 4 tablespoons

Ice cube

1 cup(s), plus additional for serving

Instructions

  1. Put basil into cocktail shaker and gently muddle with muddler.
  2. Add all remaining ingredients to shaker; cover and shake vigorously until outside of shaker looks icy.
  3. Strain gin mixture into 4 ice-filled glasses. Garnish with basil leaves.
  4. Per serving: about 1/3 cup without ice
