A BLT is stunning in its simplicity, but that doesn't mean there isn't room for a few upgrades. Seasoning the tomatoes with salt and pepper and zhuzhing up the mayo, plus finding the best tomatoes you can get your hands on are just some of the keys to the best BLT ever.

Ingredients

Light mayonnaise

1½ Tbsp

Lemon zest

¼ tsp

Garlic

1 clove(s), grated

Whole wheat sourdough bread

2 slice(s), medium, lightly toasted

Romaine lettuce

2 leaf/leaves

Tomato

4 thin slice(s)

Kosher salt

2 pinch(es)

Black pepper

2 pinch(es)

Cooked crisp center cut bacon

Instructions

Combine the mayo, lemon zest, and garlic. Spread on 1 side of each slice of bread.

Layer lettuce and 2 slices of tomato on the mayo side of 1 slice of bread. Season tomato with the salt and pepper. Add the bacon slices.

Top with remaining 2 slices of tomato, lettuce, and slice of bread. Cut into halves.
