Quick Homemade Tomato Sauce

Make a double or triple batch of this sauce and freeze it in small containers. It’s perfect for defrosting when you want to make pizza, baked ziti or other Italian recipes.


Ingredients
Onion
⅓ cup(s), grated
Olive oil
1 tbsp(s)
Garlic
2 clove(s), large, grated
Dried oregano
½ tsp(s)
Table salt
½ tsp(s)
Canned unsalted tomato paste
1 tbsp(s)
Canned crushed tomatoes
28 oz, or whole tomatoes

Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. When oil shimmers, add onion; cook, stirring frequently, until onion is translucent, 2-3 minutes. Add garlic, oregano and salt; cook 1 minute. Add tomato paste; cook, stirring, 1 minute more.

Add canned tomatoes (if whole, use your hands to crush them); bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer until sauce thickens, 5-10 minutes.
