Sweet, fragrant pears are the star in this quick and easy salsa. A duo of fresh herbs adds tons of flavor, with oregano lending woodsy depth and mint offering up some fresh zing.

Ingredients

Bartlett pear

1 item(s), finely chopped

Onion

¼ cup(s), or diced (sweet variety such as Vidalia)

Lemon zest

½ tsp(s)

Fresh lemon juice

1 tbsp(s)

Fresh oregano

1 tsp(s), chopped

Fresh mint leaves

1 tsp(s), chopped

Table salt

¼ tsp(s)

Jalapeño pepper

1 medium, seeded and minced

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
  2. Serving size: ¼ cup

Notes

We call for seeding the jalapeño, but you can leave the seeds and membranes in for a kick of heat. Spoon the salsa over seared salmon, chicken, or steak, enjoy it with pita or tortilla chips, or pile it onto a grain bowl. The acid in the lemon juice will prevent the pear from browning, so you can make the salsa ahead.
