Here’s a fun new way to enjoy apples. We cut them into French fry–shaped batons, coat them with a combo of cornstarch and cinnamon, and bake them so that the coating gets lightly crisp and the apples are crisp-tender. A light dusting of granulated sugar finishes the fries, which we serve with a caramel-flavoured yogurt dip for dunking.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

2 spray(s)

Apple

2 medium

Cornstarch

2 tbsp(s)

Ground cinnamon

½ tsp(s)

Sugar

1 tbsp(s)

Plain fat free Greek yogurt

½ cup(s)

Dark brown sugar

1½ tbsp(s)

Vanilla extract

½ tsp(s)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Cut the apples into ½-inch fry-shaped sticks and place in a large bowl.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the cornstarch and cinnamon; sprinkle over the apples and toss well to coat. Arrange the fries on the prepared pan in a single layer, and coat lightly with cooking spray. Bake, without stirring or flipping, until lightly browned, 13 to 15 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, stir together the yogurt, brown sugar, and vanilla. Rinse out the bowl and pat it dry. Place the apple fries in the bowl and sprinkle with the granulated sugar; toss gently to coat. Serve with the dip.
  4. Serving size: about ½ cup fries and 2 tbsp dip
