This hot cereal is fragrant with apples and autumn spices. It's tasty comfort food that's ready in minutes.

Ingredients

Fat-free skim milk

2 cup(s)

Ground cinnamon

tsp(s)

Ground nutmeg

tsp(s), plus extra for garnish

Uncooked farina

cup(s)

Apple

1 small, Golden Delicious, peeled, cored and cut into small chunks

Sugar substitute

1 tbsp(s), such as Splenda or Sweet'N Low, or to taste

Plain fat free yogurt

¼ cup(s)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine milk, cinnamon and nutmeg and bring to a boil over high heat. Sprinkle in farina, stirring constantly. Stir in apple; return to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low and simmer until thickened, stirring often, about 2 minutes; remove from heat and stir in Splenda.
  3. Spoon cooked cereal into 2 small bowls and top each with yogurt; garnish with a dusting of nutmeg, if desired.
  4. Yields about 1 1/3 cups of cereal and 2 tablespoons of yogurt per serving.

Notes

Swap a pear for the apple, if desired.
