Congratulations! You've delivered your beautiful baby and your physician has given you the go-ahead to join WeightWatchers®. We're thrilled to have you as part of the family.

In your profile checklist you were asked if you were breastfeeding exclusively or transitioning to solids. We’ve already adjusted your Points Budget to account for the extra nutrition you need for each stage.

To ensure good health and ongoing milk production, it's important that you follow these guidelines:

  • Have 3 servings of milk products each day to ensure adequate protein, calcium, and fluid intake.

  • Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit to boost your intake of necessary vitamins and minerals.

  • Have 3 teaspoons of healthy oil per day for more vitamin E.(Canola, olive, sunflower, safflower, and flaxseed are good choices).

  • Drink plenty of water. Being well-hydrated contributes to your milk supply.

Check in with your physician about your progress. Also consult your doctor if you are:

  • Allergic to or unable to tolerate milk

  • Nursing more than one baby

  • Thinking that your milk supply is decreasing

  • Concerned about specific questions regarding foods to avoid, or dietary supplements to take

Keep in mind that the information provided is for general purposes only. It's essential that you follow any specific advice provided by your physician or other healthcare professional.

While breastfeeding, the Points plan is designed to lead to a weight loss of up to 1 pound a week. Losing more weight than this may affect the quality and quantity of your breast milk.

As a Nursing mom will my allowance be the same as it is today

The calculation for mothers who are the sole source of their baby’s nutrition, is add 12 Points values to their daily Points (if < 41 use 41). The calculation for mothers who are only partially the source of nutrition for their baby, is add 5 Points values to their daily Points. Once weaning is complete, the daily Points should be reset to that for a non-lactating woman.

Please note:
• The program is eligible to nursing moms upon approval of a physician and we recommend a rate of weight loss not more than 4.5 lb per month.
• Nursing moms can use their digital tools to determine their daily Points. Go to the Settings section of your digital tools, where you can make adjustments for whether you are partially or fully breastfeeding and that will assign your new Points Budget.
