Your 7-Day Dinner Plan: Simple Southern-Inspired Recipes
Southern cuisine is ultra popular for good reason: it's absolutely delicious. There's a misconception that it features mostly fried foods or recipes with tons of butter; in fact, many southern dishes include an abundance of fresh produce, lean protein like seafood and chicken, and lots of grilling.
In this collection of recipes, we've made some tweaks to the classics. To accompany seared pork chops, we swap out corn for riced cauliflower and stir in cream cheese to get a similar texture to buttery grits. For our buttermilk cornflake-crusted chicken breasts, we use the air fryer to cook them to a gorgeous golden brown crunch.
We've also leaned heavily on lots of regional fruits and veggies like sweet potatoes, peaches, bell peppers, and corn and hominy. Add classic southern flavors like a sweet mustard barbecue sauce, redeye gravy flavored with coffee, and cayenne pepper to the mix and you know dinner's going to be delicious.
