The high-fiber bar our experts say tastes like dessert

This on-the-go way to get more fiber feels like a treat, not a chore.

As our head of food and recipe Sherry Rujikarn puts it, “fiber is that girl you think protein is.” That’s because of fiber’s awesome health benefits: it may reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes and cancer, keeps you feeling full, supports heart health — and, yes, helps keep you regular. The recommendation is 25–38 grams of fiber per day (depending on your age and sex).

But in reality, most of us aren’t getting enough; fiber was named among the most underconsumed nutrients in the U.S. in the latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans. And while you know it’s best to get fiber from unprocessed sources like fruits, veggies, and whole grains, sometimes that doesn’t work for your busy day and a bar can come in to supplement.

We know “high-fiber” and “dessert” don’t usually go together — but peanut butter and chocolate sure do. That’s where the Aloha Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Bar delivers. With 10 grams of fiber per serving (for comparison, a serving of prunes has 12 grams), these bars make it easy to meet your daily fiber goals. Taste-wise, our chief nutrition officer Michelle Cardel, M.S., RD, Ph.D., calls them “the clear-cut winner” for their rich peanut butter flavor and chocolate chips in every bite. Laura Weissbart, our head of program and food, who usually steers clear of bars, was even won over: “They’re really tasty — almost like a dessert,” she says.

The taste of a rich dessert but the fiber content of a veggie is our kind of bar.
