6 wellness-focused New Year's Resolutions

Are you tired of making the same old New Year’s resolutions? Try one or more of these 7 ideas instead. They're a little different to the usual promises we make to ourselves on January 1st, and they could even help boost your wellbeing.

1. Get your photo taken in 5 interesting places

This quirky resolution makes a great excuse to get out and about, whether you go adventuring somewhere relatively local or you jet to Europe for a long weekend.

2. Try a new food every month

Rather than cutting foods out of your diet, why not add more foods in? To enjoy more variety in your diet, the fruit and veg aisle is a great place to start - you can pick up exotic fare like lychees and dragon fruit, for example. Why not complement this resolution by trying a new recipe each week too? With 2000+ in the WW app, there are plenty to choose from - or check out our cookbooks.

3. Do something from your childhood

Adulting is hard work! Take a break from your responsibilities and indulge in something you used to enjoy as a child. How about rollerskating or bouncing around at a trampoline park? It could even earn you some activity Points®!

4. Go on a digital diet

Are you reading this on your phone? Guilty! How long have you spent looking at a screen today? Studies show that looking at a screen too much cause sleep disturbance, self-esteem issues and even depression. Try taking regular breaks from your phone or switch it off completely to give your eyes, brain and thumb a break.

5. Read a book a month

On a related note, why not take all the time you spend on your phone and curl up with a good book instead? Studies show that reading can induce calm and reduce stress, so if you’re feeling overwhelmed or you need something to keep your fingers busy, try turning pages instead of scrolling through Instagram.

6. Do something nice for others every day

Many resolutions focus on yourself, and while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, why not make a promise to help others more in 2021? We've all had a rough 2020, after all. Plan to do one nice thing a day for someone else, from giving a compliment to donating blood. Added bonus: doing good makes you feel good!
