Homemade smoothies are a delicious way to reach your daily recommended intake of vitamins and minerals, plus they're super easy to make - it can be as simple as mixing whatever fruit or veg you’ve got in the fridge with a little bit of liquid.

Whether you fancy something fruity, creamy or leafy, the wonderful world of smoothies has something for everyone. Experiment with different flavour combos until you find your favourite, or check out the recipes below to get started.

Enjoying smoothies on the WW programme

WW's Points® system recognises that many healthy, delicious foods (like fat-free dairy and fruit) contain natural sugar. Points®distinguishes between these naturally sweet foods and foods containing added sugar (like sugary drinks, sweets and some cereals) which are less nutritious and can have an negative impact on your health and weight. Foods containing natural sugar have a lower Points® value to encourage you to eat them as part of your diet.

So, not only are smoothies now kinder on your Budget, you could even ADD Points® to your Budget by drinking them. How? When making smoothies from scratch at home, throw some non-starchy veggies into the blender for Points-boosting potential. You'll get 1 Points® value for every handful - hooray!

Is it OK that I’m adding a lot of Points® to my Budget from drinking smoothies?

We’re all for adding non-starchy veggies to smoothies (and Points to your Budget). But just like everything, moderation is key. A good rule of thumb? Stick to what you’ve been doing. If you usually put in two handfuls of spinach and feel happy with that, bumping it up to six handfuls just to add extra Points isn’t exactly a healthy pattern of eating. (Also, bleurgh.)

Why do smoothies have Points values?

Research has found that drinking fruits and veggies in pureed form generally isn’t as satisfying as consuming solid foods. For this reason, smoothies have Points values, even when they're made using ZeroPoint™ foods. Find out more here.
