Love your body fitness plan - part two

It’s now time to up the effort with Jennie Gadsby’s Tone Workout. This 10-minute workout focuses on the muscles around your core, including the tummy, back, bottom and chest.

Want to work out with Jennie’s instructions? You can! Click here for your own private class. You’ll find warm up and cool down videos, too, as well as the above ‘Energise Workout’.

Let's get started

  • My Tone Workout doesn’t need equipment but you may want to use a mat on a hard floor.

  • Aim to work hard for 45 seconds and rest for 15 seconds. If you find it too challenging, you can work for 40 seconds and rest for 20.

  • As you get fitter, your workouts will start to feel easier, so keep challenging yourself. When you feel ready, you can do both my Energise and Tone Workouts back-to-back.

  • In Part 1, I suggested doing my Energise Workout at least twice a week. If you’ve been doing that, it should be feeling easier. Aim for at least four workout days now – more if you’re up to it.

  • Make sure you warm up before and cool down after for 5 minutes – it will help you to avoid injury and make your workout more effective.

To warm up
Gradually increase your heart rate and get the blood pumping by walking or jogging on the spot of 2 minutes. Next, prepare your muscles by stretching in different directions: over your head, out to the side and down to the floor.

1. Twists
Sit with your legs stretched out in front, arms up,
then lean back. Keep your chest up and open, and
raise one foot at a time. Too easy? Take the opposite
elbow across. Don’t crunch forward – lean back to
work your tummy.

2. Mountain Climbers
In a press-up position, slowly bring one knee at a
time in towards your chest, keeping the foot off
the floor. Too tough? Raise your hands and support
your weight on a low table or stable chair.

3. Alternate Leg Drops
Lie on your back with your arms to the side and
your legs raised. With your back still in contact with
the floor, slowly lower one leg at a time, as far as
you can, then return it to the start position.

4. Walkouts
From standing, reach down so your hands touch the
floor in front of you (bend your knees if you need to).
‘Walk’ your hands out as far as is comfortable, then
walk them back in and return to a standing position.

5. Single Arm Rotation
On all fours, tuck your bottom down so you have a
straight back in line with the backs of your thighs.
Reach one arm out and up to feel a big twist around
your waist. Look up towards the hand. Too easy?
Work your arms and shoulders by starting in a press-up
position.

MY TIP
Take your time with these exercises: the slower you do them, the tougher they are!

TO COOL DOWN
Gently return your heart rate to normal by walking briskly on the spot for 1-2 minutes, gradually reducing your pace. To reduce any soreness the next day, you need to stretch out all the muscles you worked, holding each stretch for at least 10 seconds.
