Your body image is your personal relationship with your body. It encompasses everything from your perceptions and beliefs, to your thoughts and feelings about your physical appearance. The key thing to know is that doing what you can to feel more positively about your body is a smart move, regardless of the number you see on the scales.

Not only does shifting your body image into a more positive place help you appreciate the body you have (and it deserves that love, because it’s amazing!), it can also help you achieve better weight-loss results, and make you more likely to maintain that weight loss, long term. The reason? One explanation is that by building a better body image, those negative, unhelpful thoughts about your body that can disrupt healthy eating and lifestyle choices, become less powerful and less frequent.

Your body image has likely developed over a long period of time, so it’s important to cut yourself some slack and realise that changing what you believe, think and feel about your body can take time. But the good news is that there are a number of proven techniques that really do work to build a more positive body image.
