Get up and go

Running late? Don’t skip breakfast – try these super-speedy ideas, instead...

We know how it goes – you slept through your alarm, the kids are late for school, and your car won’t start. Breakfast might be the last thing on your mind, but that’s no excuse to miss out on this important meal. It fills you up, so you’re less prone to snacking. It also provides you with important nutrients to fuel you for the rest of the day. Start your morning with these healthy brekkies – they’re perfect for tucking in on the go.

Fruit such as apples, bananas, pears, peaches or nectarines are ultra-portable, ultra-delicious, and will jumpstart your 5-a-day. They also contain some of the fibre necessary for a healthy diet.

High-fibre toast spread with a little protein-rich peanut butter takes zero time to prep.

Hardboiled eggs are full of protein, vitamin B12 and riboflavin, and can be cooked the night before for extra convenience.

Low-fat yogurt is perfect for grabbing straight from the fridge – and you can bulk it out with fresh fruit or grains.

Instant oats are easy to whip up if you have access to a microwave at work. Alternatively, keep a box of Weetabix by your desk.

A turkey sandwich is an easy breakfast treat that can be made ahead and reheated. Toast an English muffin, top it with scrambled egg and a strip of turkey bacon, wrap it in baking paper and pop it in the fridge.
