What to order at an Indian restaurant

Tracking tip: Search for a specific restaurant’s menu item first; if it’s not in the database, track a similar dish from a different restaurant.

Points-saving hacks

1. If you would like naan, have naan, but to save on Points try roti instead. Unlike naan bread, roti (also known as chapati) is unleavened and is available in white or whole grain. Made in a frying pan, it closely resembles a wholewheat tortilla.

2. To save Points for your main, order a cup of lentil soup to start. “Pakora,” “samosa” and “bhaji” small bites are usually deep-fried.

3. Be strategic about chutney: Chutneys are key condiments in Indian cuisine, and you usually get two choices - red or green. If you can handle the spice, the green chutney is the best choice. Made with mint, coriander and spicy chillies, this herbal and fiery condiment brings big flavour.

4. Too much spice? Tame the heat with yogurt-based raita instead of naan or rice.
