Ready to Become Sugar-Savvy? Sweet!

Try this!

Come up with a plan to decrease added sugar.

1. Choose one strategy to help you eat less added sugar. Each category below gives a few ideas to get started. Feel free to come up with your own! Flavor Boosters: 1. Give still carbonated water a spa makeover with mint, ginger, lime, lemon, or orange. (Any fruit or herb works!) 2. Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to amp up the flavor of plain oatmeal. 3. Go with nonfat plain yogurt and sweeten it with berries. Sugar Reducers: 1. Simplify your nut butter game and pick ones that only contain nuts and salt. 2. Skip the scoop of sugar and bake with pumpkin purée, applesauce, mashed bananas, or puréed butternut squash. 3. Become a master granola maker. Nuts, seeds, spices...let your taste buds lead the way. Smarter Swaps: 1. Opting for plant-based milks? Look for “unsweetened” or “no sugar added” on the package. 2. Ask your barista to use half the amount of syrup in your usual flavored coffee drink. 3. Like sweet cereal? Blend in unflavored, plain cereal (like bran or corn flakes) for a half-and-half situation. 2. Create a plan to use the strategy you picked. When, where, and how will you do it? 3. Reflect on it. What worked well that you can stick with? What didn’t you love? (It’s OK to try another strategy if the first was a bust.)

Let’s dive a little deeper...

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Every food is on the table when you’re on WW. (Yes, even if it contains sugar!) But reducing added sugar is important to your weight-loss and wellness journey.

Natural sugar

A carb that’s already in foods like dairy, fruits, and veggies - part of a healthy eating pattern.

Added sugar

Even more sugar was manually added into your food or drink. It’s hiding in cookies and cake, and could be in your favourite flavored milk, yogurt, and oatmeal too.

Being sugar-savvy can help you stay in Budget. It also supports your health and lowers your risk for type 2 diabetes and cavities. What change are you making this week?
