This traditional dish is an integral part of the Passover meal. It’s crunchy and sweet, delicious sandwiched between matzo.

Ingredients

Apple

4 medium, cored and cut into 4 pieces each*

Sweet dessert wine

8 fl oz, Kosher for Passover (1 cup)

Raisins

1 cup(s), golden-variety, chopped

Walnuts

1 cup(s), chopped

Ground cinnamon

1 tsp

Ground nutmeg

¼ tsp(s)

Honey

1 tbsp(s)

Instructions

  1. Shred apples into a large, non-reactive bowl; add remaining ingredients and toss well to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour. Yields about 1/3 cup per serving.

Notes

*Four different varieties of apples recommended. This recipe can be made a day or two ahead. The mixture will turn brown the longer it sits but the flavours really blend well.
