Want to become a hero to your family? Serve them this fun, fast spin on a cheeseburger; they’re guaranteed to be delighted. Ground beef is seasoned with shredded onion (the small pieces cook quickly, leaving no crunchy bits), salt, and pepper, then rolled into bratwurst-sized logs that grill to juicy perfection before nestling into a cheese-lined hot dog bun. It’s a burger like you’ve never had before—but that you’re bound to set into regular family-dinner rotation.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

4 spray(s)

Uncooked extra lean ground beef 96 % lean 4% fat

1 pound(s)

Kosher salt

½ tsp(s)

Black pepper

½ tsp(s)

Onion

½ small, shredded on large holes of a box grater

Reduced calorie hot dog bun

4 item(s)

Fat-free American cheese

4 slice(s), or other cheese if preferred

Unsweetened dill pickle

12 chip(s), 4 chips per person

Mustard

4 tsp(s)

Instructions

  1. Coat a grill rack with cooking spray. Preheat the grill to medium-high (about 450°F). Alternately, coat a grill pan with cooking spray and heat over medium-high.
  2. Place the beef in a large bowl; sprinkle the beef with salt and pepper. Shred the onion on the large holes of a box grater; add the onion to the beef. Mix well to combine. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 6 ½- to 7-inch log. Place the beef logs on the grill rack or grill pan. Grill until well marked and cooked through, about 10 minutes, turning occasionally.
  3. Line each hot dog bun with 1 cheese slice; tuck 3 pickles into each bun. Place 1 beef log in each bun; top each burger dog with 1 teaspoon mustard.
  4. Serving size: 1 burger dog
