Air Fryer Roasted Chestnuts
Chestnuts take much less time to “roast” in an air fryer than in the oven (or on an open fire) and still pick up the nutty-toasty flavour you love. You’ll need to follow a few steps for success. First, be sure to score the chestnuts’ shells; otherwise, they might explode and make a mess inside your air fryer. Second, soak them in hot water for a few minutes before air-frying to make them easier to shell. Third, be sure to add water to the air fryer to create steam so the chestnuts don’t dry out in the arid heat.

- Place each chestnut flat side down on a cutting board; cut 2 slits in the shape of an “X” into the rounded side of each chestnut’s shell, trying not to cut down into the flesh. In a large bowl, combine the scored chestnuts with enough hot water to cover. Let stand for 10 minutes.
- Preheat an air fryer, if necessary, to 375°F. Drain the chestnuts. Pour 1 cup of water into the base of the air fryer basket. Add the chestnuts to the basket and place inside the base. Air-fry until the shells start to peel back where they were scored and the chestnuts smell nutty-fragrant, about 10 minutes. Serve warm.
