Restaurant guide: A&W

Dining out doesn’t have to be off the table with WeightWatchers, and it doesn’t have to be scary or confusing either. With our restaurant guides and the additional data in our app, you can easily find the Points values of hundreds of common menu items at restaurants across Canada.

Here, we take a look at the popular fast-food spot A&W and break down the Points values of a number of menu items, from breakfasts to burgers to root beer shakes. Use this guide or the app when you’re ordering, or as a handy tool to pre-track a meal before you head out.

Breakfast

Some mornings, you just need a fast-food breakfast to get you through the day. To keep you full and keep the Points values low, try an A&W Breakfast Wrap that comes in at 6 Points. Another low-Point option is a Cheese & Egger with English Muffin, which has 9 Points. In general, the English muffin breakfast sandwiches are lower on the Points spectrum, while higher-ticket items include the All-Canadian Special and pancakes.

Burgers

A&W is of course known for its burgers and offers a wide selection. Perhaps not surprisingly, when it comes to Points, size matters. A baby burger, for example, is 8 Points, while a Grandpa Burger comes in at 27. For middle ground options, look to the Mama, the Buddy, and the Beyond Meat Burger.

Chicken and More

If fried chicken is what you’re craving, A&W’s chicken strips have the lowest Points value. The chicken wraps are also a good bet, coming in at 10 Points. At the higher end of the spectrum, the BLT Chicken Burger counts for 20 Points.

Sides

Fries are 11 Points, while onion rings come in at 16. Poutine, with its addition of cheese and gravy, comes in at 21 or 22 Points. Gravy on its own, on the other hand, is just 2 Points for a small portion, so you could skip the cheese curds and dip your fries in a side of gravy. For the sweet tooths out there, desserts like A&W’s turnovers are 13 Points.

Brew Bar

When it comes to A&W’s classic root beer drinks, smaller sizes will help keep the Points values lower. For example, a small frozen root beer is 8 Points, while a regular size is 14. Root beer sweet cream shakes can go up to 33 Points.

For coffee-based drinks, you can go with a 0Point iced cold brew, or spend an average 5 or 6 Points on a latte.
