Finding the JOMO* in saying no

We’ve said no to seconds at your holiday dinner or to an invitation (or something else!)...now what? Most people naturally tend to focus on what we’re giving up or missing out on. It can even lead to feeling like we’re constantly saying no to things just to stay on track. (Talk about uninspiring.) That’s why shifting our thinking to what we’re actually getting instead can be so beneficial for staying focused and inspired. Even better? It can help us continue to prioritize what’s important to us!

What to do: The next time you say no to something, pause to think about what you’re actually saying yes to.

1. Make a list (IRL or in your head) of all the reasons you want to say no.

○ Turning down seconds at your holiday dinner? Maybe it’s because you’re trying to stay in your Points® Budget or you’re just not hungry for more.

2. Take a moment to notice how this benefits you.

○ Do you feel energized and satisfied? You might even feel pretty proud of yourself and in control of your choices.

3. Connect what you’ve gained from saying no with what’s important to you.

○ On a weight-loss journey? Saying no to those seconds might push you forward in achieving your goal. (Or, hey, even amp you up for some after-dinner games!)
