February 7 Weekly Technique
By Caren Oppenheim

Try this!
Research shows that as humans, we have a tendency to take the path of least resistance. The easier the choice, the more likely we are to do it. But what if the easier choice isn’t the best choice? It’s time to add some friction to your life. Let’s break it down.
An unwanted behaviour could be sitting in your comfy desk chair all week. A wanted behaviour could be standing while working by stacking your laptop on books and adding friction by moving your desk chair into your bedroom. We’re talking about sitting here, but this technique can apply to ANY behaviour.
Let’s dive a little deeper…
Why does it work?
You’ve added friction to make the behaviour you don’t want to do (sitting all day) harder because it now requires more energy. This naturally makes the behaviour you do want to do (standing more often) easier.
Ready to try?
Choose a behaviour you want to stop.
Pinpoint how your environment is making that unwanted behaviour easier to do.
Brainstorm and choose a way to make that unwanted behaviour require more energy.
Did you know?
53.9% of WW Success Registry members reported sitting less than 11 hours on average every weekday.
