I had to make a few substitutions from the pantry; fire roasted tomatos with chili powder added in place of chili sauce, fresh onion rather than frozen, all wine in place of beef broth, and skipped the tomato paste. It turned out just fine with lots of flavor layers and textures, a simply filling dish indeed! Double the prep time... I've never made a recipe that didn't underestimate that aspect!!
I cook for two, so we've plenty left to freeze a couple servings for a future dinner.
