When you want a dinner-party dessert that wows, this napoleon is the answer. Layers of light, buttery-tasting phyllo dough sandwich sweet, creamy, strawberry deliciousness. It's perfect for a special occasion or holiday meal, and makes enough to serve a group. Take it to the next level with an even, professional-looking finish: Put confectioners’ sugar in a small metal strainer, hold the strainer about 8 inches above the pastry, and very gently tap the edge of the strainer as you move it slowly over the top of each Napoleon.

Ingredients

Phyllo dough

6 sheet(s), thawed if frozen

Sugar

6 tsp

Sugar

3 Tbsp

Reduced fat cream cheese (neufchâtel)

3 oz, softened

Reduced fat sour cream

½ cup(s)

Lemon zest

2 tsp, finely grated

Light aerosol whipped cream

¾ cup(s)

Strawberries

4 cup(s), sliced

Confectioners' sugar

1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place 1 sheet of phyllo on a baking sheet, spray with cooking spray and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar; repeat with remaining phyllo sheets and another 5 teaspoons of granulated sugar, spraying each with cooking spray and stacking them. Cut the stacked phyllo lengthwise into 3 strips and prick all over with fork. Cut each strip into 12 even slices. Bake until golden, 12−15 minutes; transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. In a medium bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the cream cheese until fluffy. Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, sour cream, and lemon zest. Continue to beat until the mixture is light and airy; using a rubber spatula, fold in the whipped topping.
  3. To make each Napoleon, carefully place 1 phyllo strip on a serving platter or on an individual plate and spread with a heaping teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture; top with three or four strawberry slices. Place a second phyllo strip on top, add another heaping teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture, and top with three or four more strawberry slices. Place a third phyllo strip on top, and dust the Napoleon with confectioner's sugar. Repeat this process to create 12 Napoleons.
  4. Serving size: 1 Napoleon.
