This is the world’s favorite pizza, perhaps for the sunny simplicity of its toppings: tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and herbs (the colors of the Italian flag).
pizza dough mix10 oz, or 1 prebaked thin pizza crust
canned tomato sauce¾ cup(s), fat-free
shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese¼ cup(s)
olive oil2 tsp
fresh parsley1 Tbsp, flat-leaf, chopped
fresh oregano½ Tbsp, or 1/2 teaspoon dried
basil½ Tbsp, chopped, or 1/2 teaspoon dried
table salt¼ tsp
crushed red pepper flakes⅛ tsp
- Preheat the oven according to the directions for the crust you are using.
- Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the crust; sprinkle with the cheese. Drizzle with the oil, then sprinkle with the parsley, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bake until the cheese is bubbling, 10–15 minutes. Serve at once. Yields 1/4 pizza per serving.
