In Kristen and Paul’s words:
Kristen: A few months before our wedding, I was on Instagram, and I started scrolling through my photos. I didn’t like way I looked or felt. Our wedding was coming up, and I was afraid to try on wedding dresses. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I started to search for Weight Watchers members on Instagram. I wanted to look and feel better, and the posts I found inspired me to join. I called Paul and told him I was starting the program.
Paul: I also felt that it was time to do something about my health. We were eating out all the time, grabbing wings or barbeque, and when we went to the movies, we’d split a large popcorn, soda, and candy. We wanted to look and feel better for our wedding and we wanted to set up healthy habits for our family. A half hour after Kristen called, I signed up as an OnlinePlus subscriber.
How Kristen and Paul Lost The Weight
Kristen: During the first few weeks, we really focused on cooking and eating at home. We searched online for healthy recipes to make. We’d use the Weight Watchers app at the grocery store to scan barcodes to find healthy snacks that we’d enjoy. We spent a lot of time researching how to make the program work for our lives.
Paul: It was eye-opening to see how much we were eating before. I quickly noticed that I was eating two days’ worth of SmartPoints each day—no wonder I became so unhealthy! Working the program together helped me realize that it’s a lifestyle, not a diet.
Kristen's and Paul's Healthy Lifestyle After Their Weight Watchers Success
Kristen: Paul is absolutely right. Thanks to all the prep we do over the weekend, we can handle all the busy days during the week. Even if it’s a packed day, we’ll cook a healthy meal because we have all the ingredients and we’ve already planned our menu for the week. If we do go out to eat, we’ll plan for it and make the right choices. We live in Texas so we love barbeque: Instead of brisket and a loaded baked potato, we’ll have a smoked turkey sandwich and corn on the cob. It’s so yummy!
Paul: Or when we go to the movies now, we’ll split a small popcorn—or sneak in some fruit. We’ve also made a fitness schedule: Kristen will go to the gym at 5 a.m., and I will go after work.
Kristen: At first, getting up so early in the morning was tough! To stay accountable, I posted a shot of my alarm set for 4:40 am on Instagram. Because I did that, I knew I had to get up in the morning and get to the gym.
Paul: The kind of commitment that I see in Kristen inspires me to keep going on my journey. She’s a dedicated mother, stepmom, and wife—I don’t know how she does it all!
Kristen: And isn’t my husband so handsome? Getting healthy together has made our relationship stronger. We make all our choices together. We’ll head to the grocery store together, go on walks with our family, or shop for a new wardrobe as a couple. We are living one amazing life.
