WW Cruise FAQs: Preparing for your trip

Preparing For Your  Trip: Caribbean & Mediterranean

Preparing for the Caribbean

Will I need a passport or visa?

A passport or passport card is now required for all U.S. and Canadian citizens traveling to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico, Central and South America. If you have a passport, please check the expiration date to be sure it will be valid. If you do not have a passport, apply early to avoid backlogs and extra fees. Check new requirements at: travel.state.gov. Naturalized U.S. citizens must bring your U.S. passport. Registered aliens are advised to bring a valid passport, a Resident Card, and a government issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license).

Citizens of other countries need a valid passport and may need a valid U.S. multiple entry permit visa, since you will be entering the U.S. to embark on the cruise and re-entering the U.S. at the end of the cruise. Please check current visa requirements with your Consulate General or a travel agent in your area to be sure you have the required documents. Your first and last name on your passport must match the first and last name on your ticket. If you need to change the name on your ticket, email WWwebCheckIn@LorraineTravel.com.

No visas are required for U.S. or Canadian citizens or citizens of countries that are part of the Visa Waiver Program. You are responsible for obtaining and bringing all necessary travel documents and for complying with customs and immigration requirements.  Guests without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel, and no refund of cruise fare will be given to any guest failing to bring such documentation.

Where do I get on and off the ship?

You will board the ship at the PortMiami, the largest passenger port in the world. You may come by taxi, public transportation, or drive and park.

Which airport should I fly into?

Miami International Airport is the closest airport to the port.

I’m booking a flight, what time should I arrive?

We encourage you to arrive to the port around noon on the day of your departure. WW will host an exclusive Kick-Off later in the afternoon. You must arrive at the port no later than 2 hours before ship embarkation time.

What time should I book my return flight?

Disembarkation will begin once the ship is cleared by U.S Customs and Border Protection around 7:30 a.m. Everyone is generally off the ship by 10:45 a.m.

MSC Cruises recommends that you schedule a return flight from Miami International Airport after 12:00 p.m. International guests should allow an extra 60-90 minutes, so schedule flights at 1:30 p.m. or later. If flying from the Fort Lauderdale airport, MSC Cruises recommends scheduling a domestic return flight after 1:30 p.m.

For a fee, MSC provides shuttle service at designated times for those traveling to Fort Lauderdale airport. You may arrange this service at the MSC reception desk.

I want to arrive the day before disembarkation, can you recommend a hotel?

Yes, we have a group rate for overnight accommodations on March 10, 2019 in Miami, click here to learn more.

How early can we embark?

Boarding typically begins around noon on the day of your departure. You must be on board NO LATER than 2 hours prior to sail time.

When do we get off the ship at the end of the cruise?

Typically, we will disembark between 7:30-10:30 a.m. MSC recommends you schedule a return flight any time after 12:00 p.m., if you are returning day the ship returns to Miami. International guests should allow an extra 60-90 minutes, so schedule flights at 1:30 p.m. or later. Allow an extra 60-90 minutes if flying from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport.

For those with time constraints, early disembarkation is also available. Early disembarkation must be requested on the ship and starts as early as 7:00 a.m. You will have to go to the MSC front desk and ask to be placed on the early disembarkation list. Do this at least 2-3 days before the end of the cruise. Also, please note that passengers who disembark early are responsible for taking their own luggage off the ship.

Guests requiring wheelchair assistance are invited to join the assisted disembarkation process and should arrive to the disembarkation area 30 minutes prior to the designated time.

Should you choose Express Walk Off, guests will disembark carrying your own luggage after the clearance announcement. This is typically between 7:00-8:00 a.m.

More information will be provided directly to your cabin the evening before.

How can I arrange for early disembarkation?

Early disembarkation must be requested on the ship. The easiest,  most efficient, and quickest way to disembark the ship is the self-assist program. Guests are responsible for carrying off their own luggage and can disembark once the ship is cleared.

The self-assist form and instructions are delivered to cabins during the cruise. Priority disembarkation can be requested via reception for guests who have early flights. Early disembarkation typically begins around 6:15 a.m.
