How it worksWW uses the latest in nutritional and behavior science to guide you toward smarter food choices. Knowing that moving more, sleeping better, and shifting your mindset are important aspects of the wellness journey, WW has easy-to-use tools in our app to help you reach your goals.

Intermittent fasting is an approach to eating that requires you to partially or fully abstain from food and caloric beverages for controlled periods. There are several protocols with different rules for fasting, 16:8 fasting, 5:2 diet, alternate-day fasting, and eat-stop-eat diet, which lay out different time periods to restrict calories consumed.

What can I eat?Anything you’d like! The new myWW+ is our most holistic approach to weight loss ever, matching you with a customized plan through our new in-depth personal assessment. You’ll also get a list of hundreds of ZeroPoint™ foods that you don't have to measure or track, giving you freedom to eat what you love.

During a “fasted” period, only water, unsweetened tea or coffee, seltzer, and other non-caloric drinks are allowed. Restricting the hours during which you eat (also called time-restricted eating) can lead to weight loss, but research suggests this is largely due to a reduction in calorie intake, not the mechanics of having periods of not eating. However, too many restrictions can be hard to live with in the long run.

Health considerations

WW was named the #1 doctor-recommended weight-loss program based on a 2019 survey by Kantar Health of 500 doctors who recommend weight-loss programs to patients.

Some reported side-effects include: lightheadedness, difficulty concentrating, headaches, constipation, fainting, insomnia, fatigue, weakness, dehydration, and increased sensitivity to alcohol.
