You Should Make This Bolognese Recipe

By Debbie Koenig

This may strike you as bossy, but I’m about to tell you what to do. Grab your copy of the January/February issue of Weight Watchers Magazine and turn to page 73. There you’ll find the latest entry in my “Master the…” column, “Master Bolognese Sauce.” Now grab a pen and paper, and write down anything on the ingredients list you don’t already have in your kitchen. Put on your shoes, grab your coat, and don’t forget your wallet, ’cuz you’re going shopping. You’re going to want to make this recipe as soon as you possibly can.

It really is that good. I try not to boast about my recipes—I’m always proud of what I produce, but I like to let people hear from someone other than me. This recipe, though, is different. It might be the most richly satisfying entrée I’ve ever created for Weight Watchers. It packs in all the flavor of an all-day-simmering ragu, but it’s ready in just 90 minutes—and it only has 5 SmartPoints® value per serving.

While I was refining this recipe, I had to make it about six times before I got it right. My husband was getting seriously sick of Bolognese. (My picky son, of course, wouldn’t touch it.) But when I finally did get the dish exactly the way I envisioned it, my husband and I were both so excited to eat it again that I actually made another batch the next week. Without needing to.

And we aren’t the only ones who loved it. After the sauce had gone through the testing process at the magazine, I got an email from one of my editors there. She wrote, “You nailed it. DELICIOUS! Even our Italian editor-in-chief asked me for the recipe right after the tasting.” That email is filed in my “ego boosters” folder.

See what I mean? This Bolognese is the perfect thing to cook and eat on a cold, wintry evening. I can’t wait to hear what you think after you try it. And when you do, maybe you’ll post a picture on Connect? And tag me?
