Welcome to The Fitness Novice. My name’s Bailey and I work full-time at Weight Watchers HQ on the Content Team.
So what’s this column all about? Well, fitness mostly, and the joy of trying new things. My relationship with exercise isn’t complicated and isn’t even love/hate. It’s sort of become a constant, like teeth-brushing. If I went without brushing my teeth, I’d definitely feel it. It’s the same with exercise. If I miss activity for over five days in a row, I feel anxious, sleepless, sluggish, and just all around blah.
The problem is, it’s not always fun. I’ve also realized that doing the same thing over and over and never switching it up isn’t great for weight loss/results.
That brings me to fitness classes. I’ve never been an athlete, but I have found a lot of satisfaction in taking a class. After the very unexpected death of my father and a much-needed breakup a couple of years ago, I jumped my grief headfirst into spin. I knew that without something on my schedule, I could end up wallowing with wine and pizza, which would feel great but not really do anything else for me. I discovered that I LOVED spinning, so much so that I abandoned all the other types of exercise I enjoyed. Meaning, when I finally got back on the running path, I was out of breath. And when I hit the yoga mat, I could barely get in a chair.
Turns out, variety really is the spice of life. So that’s why I’m here. I want to try new ways to move and I want to bring you along. I’ll report back to you with the FitPoints calculations, the 4-1-1 on the classes, and then I’ll tell you if I actually liked it.
All you have to do is keep reading week after week.
Psst! Keep up with me out on Connect at @heybailay.
