The New Year is here, and I have a lot I want to accomplish.
I’ve always been a fan of lists, I even like tracking, but I’ve found I sometimes prefer a pen and paper. So, to help me achieve my goals, I got myself a 2018 planner.
Some of this year’s big goals: Get healthy, make strides in my career, put family, friends, relationships, and myself first.
Along with tracking my exercise and what I eat (and trying to stay within my SmartPoints® Budget), I’m tracking everything else.
I’m making lists of my goals for the day. Everything from picking up stamps at the post office, cooking dinner, drinking eight glasses of water, and calling my mom, to writing three chapters in my next book and going to the gym.
I’ve been including the big and small things, because I find it satisfying to cross off tasks that I finish.
I also like looking back and seeing how I did for the week (and eventually the month and the year). I love the Weight Watchers app for this when it comes to my eating, so I figured having a book for everything else would be great, too.
When it comes to the health goal, I’m tracking how many days I stayed within my points budget, how many cups of water I drank, if I meditated, if I worked out, how many steps I took, and how much sleep I got.
For the work goals, it’s how much did I write, create, edit, produce, etc.
For the making my family, friends, relationships, and myself a priority goal, it’s saying yes when I can, but also knowing it’s okay to say no, if I need time for myself. It’s giving those I care about and love my time (and real time—where my focus is on them, not on what else I should be doing), and really listening and being there. I want to be present and make the most of each day.
There may be days where I’m not perfect, but I’m going to try. I want 2018 to be the year of great habits. I hope your year is off to an amazing start!
