Charlotte Found Her Future
Charlotte, Meetings, Lost 49 lb*
*People following the Weight Watchers plan can expect to lose 1-2 lbs/wk. Charlotte lost 49 lb on a prior Weight Watchers program and is continuing on WW FreestyleTM. In the inspiring video below, watch her journey of building her solid, healthy future.
In Charlotte’s words:
When I was 23 years old, I didn’t have a stable living situation — I was hopping from one friend’s couch to another. I had part-time jobs here and there, but money was tight. Most days I ate cheap fast food. But I didn’t like how I felt about myself, and I knew I had to start doing something about that.
Making Her Best Investment
Making a Change
To join Weight Watchers seemed out of the question, but I started considering it. My friend’s mom was on the program, and she was having great success, and I thought about trying it out, too. It had become hard for me to look in the mirror — I couldn’t recognize myself, and I didn’t like living like that. I had an epiphany: I realized that I could continue to be miserable, or I could start taking control of my life. So I took control.
You’re Worth It
When I joined Weight Watchers, some acquaintances questioned my decision to join. But it was what I needed to do, so I made it work. I knew I’d have to be even more frugal when it came to my money. I’d ask friends for a few extra dollars if I was short on my weekly fee; sometimes my Leader helped me pay. It was easy for me to use not having money as an excuse, but I knew WW was the best investment I could make.
Making the Best of my Situation
When I joined Weight Watchers, I was living in a bedroom in a house at the time. I couldn’t cook since there was just a microwave and a little refrigerator, and I washed my dishes in the bathroom sink. So I ate the healthiest fast-food options I could find, like side salads or Fresco items from Taco Bell, or I’d buy frozen Smart Ones entrées.
How Charlotte’s Success with Weight Watchers has Improved Her Life
Letting Go of the Scale
During my first few months on the program, I was tied to the scale. If I didn’t lose weight one week, I’d become really disappointed. But once I started trusting the Program, I was so much more successful. I realized that I could have this full, fun life and still lose weight. For example, I am a huge Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and I love going to games and enjoying myself. I’ll usually have a slice of cheese pizza and a beer during the game, or sometimes I’ll bring my own grilled chicken and guacamole from Baja Fresh. Or I’ll figure out ways to incorporate cheese into my meals in a healthy way. Now I’ll make healthy versions of my go-tos, like mac and cheese, using butternut squash or Greek yogurt. Or I’ll save my points so I can snack on a few cheese cubes!
At the beginning of 2012, I landed a full-time job in the client support department at a call-tracking company. As much as having a paycheck, just having a routine was comforting and validating. I felt secure for the first time in over a year — the rug wasn’t going to get pulled out from under my feet. I kept following my healthy lifestyle, and I saved enough to rent my own apartment. I finally had a place to call my own, and that was an amazing feeling. All my hard work was paying off. I felt very lucky when everything started to fall into place — I had to pinch myself to make sure it wasn’t all a dream.
Following Her Future
Being able to be successful on Weight Watchers gave me so much confidence, and that spilled over into other parts of my life: I’m in school to get my bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership, and I look forward to finding a career where I can help others — that’s my passion.
