*People following the WeightWatchers weight-loss programme can expect to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. Whitney lost weight on a prior programme and is continuing on WW Freestyle™.

In Whitney’s words:
I had joined WW several times over the years, but I could never get past the six-week mark. Then in 2016, I skipped a childhood friend’s wedding because I was ashamed of the way I looked. That finally made me realise that I wanted to change for good. I didn’t want to miss out on important milestones with my husband, kids, and friends because I didn’t feel good about myself. I went back to WW and I vowed to stay for more than six weeks. I was motivated, and I just kept going.

The path to balance

Fun with Freestyle
I can honestly say that I’ve never felt as free as I do with the WW Freestyle programme. I love to cook, so it’s been great experimenting with new recipes. I’ll go to the cupboard and say, “OK, I have canned sweetcorn, chicken breasts, and some spices—I’ll make a Mexican-inspired meal tonight.” Sometimes my two daughters go to the cupboard and pull out an ingredient like marinated artichokes, and we’ll figure out a meal from that. It’s a game for us—we’ve created so many new recipes in the kitchen that we can eat together as a family.

Parenting on the programme
My younger daughter is a total spitfire and she has so much energy! Now I’m able to keep up with her. And I’m now more equipped to talk to my older girl about body image issues that teenage girls face. Having a healthy body image is essential during this time in her life. I try to show both my children that loving your body means truly taking care of it, and a lot of that has to do with the way you eat and the way you exercise.

How Whitney’s success with WW has improved her life

Feeling confident
On my WW journey, I’ve come to realise how important mental wellness is to a healthy life. I’ve struggled with body image issues for years, and the effects went beyond my appearance. I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe that I could follow through on a task and be successful. After I pinpointed this, I realised that I need to focus on the journey, not the destination. And that let me change the course of my life and feel like myself again.

Mindful health
During my journey, I’ve realised that wellness includes the mental, physical, and spiritual—and that they’re all tied together. The journey may begin with food, but as you take care of what you’re putting into your body, you start feeling better, and then you begin to find this peace in your life. WW has made me realise that self-care must be part of my daily routine so I can continue to be the best mum, wife, and human being that I can be.
