Kick-starting my wellness journey
I’d attended a wellbeing fair at my office, where a health assistant told me I was obese, had high blood pressure and could be at risk of type 2 diabetes. It was hard to hear, but I couldn’t pretend the news was a surprise. I knew I’d become lazy. Getting in from work every day and feeling exhausted, my fiancé Nick and I would often order takeaway pizzas.
I joined WW in March 2017, and expected to feel hungry all the time. But I never once felt deprived. Nick couldn’t have been prouder as I continued to get healthier and more confident throughout the year.
I knew I was heading towards my goal, but with December 2017’s party season on the horizon, I worried all my good work would come undone. I started planning my meals and nights out ahead, pulling out all my past issues of WW magazine and scouring Connect for ideas and tips.
There’s something about that first Workshop you attend in the New Year. There’s a sense of anticipation and plenty of conversation around how much we’ve all overindulged… That was just how I felt in January 2018. I’d had a wonderful time over Christmas, enjoying all my favourite foods and treats. So as I stepped on the scales and heard my WW Coach gasp, I thought the worst. I couldn’t believe it when she said I’d reached my goal weight. It was a great way to start the year!
