Liz: '“You vs You” has become my motivator'

When did you start your WW journey?

I was a serial dieter, pretty much my whole adult life. I would say there aren’t many diets that I haven’t tried. Some were successful to start, but I would lose a few pounds, get content, and then put it back on.

When I started WW, I weighed 15 stone 2 pounds and I would say I was at my lowest mentally. I had had many personal losses and was a big emotional eater. WW has enabled me to lose over 2 stone, although I am still a work in progress. But mostly what WW has done is given me tools and the support to help my mindset. I feel so much more empowered. I no longer compare my journey to others and this has helped me and made me more grateful for the process and not just worry about getting to the end result.

What interested you in giving the Everyone Active opportunity a go?

When I heard about the WW Partnership with Everyone Active, I knew I could not let this opportunity pass me by. During lockdown last year I graduated from the couch to 5k, which was such an emotional feeling and I wanted something to give me back this sense of purpose and achievement. I was asked for my ‘why?’. I said it was simply to work towards being the healthiest version of me. I had no ideas of weight loss or loss of inches, I just wanted to feel good.

Tell us a little about your Everyone Active experience!

The first day I met Jo, our P.T., she instantly put me at ease and I felt super comfortable with her. We talked for about half an hour so she could get to know me and vice versa. We spoke about anything and everything that I was comfortable sharing. There was never any pressure to overshare.

The next time I met Jo over zoom was my first work out with her. This was a tester for Jo to work out my fitness levels and to see what moves worked best so that she could write my program. The following week, I received my first two-week plan from Jo. It was explained really well, was very clear, and I was excited to get started properly.

As well as working with Jo via zoom, I was also given a list of Everyone Active classes to try. These were accessible for free on their Facebook and Instagram. The first class I tried was Boxfit and I knew straight away this was going to be one of my favourite classes!

My next exercise was our first group session and it was lovely doing a workout together. As the weeks have gone on, I do feel like I am improving. It may be slow, but I am looking at this as a long-term way of life for me. I have made it fit into my already set routines with work and family.

I am so sad that our P.T journey with Jo is coming to an end, but I am also excited to keep up what I have learned along the way. I will definitely keep logging into the Everyone Active Facebook for classes as there is so much to choose from.

How has this opportunity helped you?

I mentioned to Jo that I wanted to get back to being able to run 5k. So, I was set an open distance fartlek, where I walked for 30 seconds, speed-walked for 30 seconds, and then ran for 30 seconds. By doing this, I was able to do 5k on my first go! It felt amazing and ever since then I have covered distances of 7.5k and even 10k. This is really improving my stamina and the other day I managed to reach my goal of running a full 5k without stopping and I managed to do it before the end of the 8th week, which I was determined to do!

At the start of my WW/Everyone Active journey, I took photos and measurements. After 2 weeks, we redid these and I could already see some differences. My shape is definitely changing as you can see my silhouette is much smoother with fewer lumps and bumps. My clothes are fitting so much better too! I knew that consistency is key if I want to keep making changes and I feel so motivated to keep it up.

With this journey, I have a greater belief in myself and am so much more confident in what I can achieve. With this new confidence, I have decided to put my name down for a 10k run, which is taking place in July in London. I’m not sure I’ll be able to run the whole thing but I am going to give it my best shot.

Thank you WW, Jo, and Everyone Active.
