Slow cooking is a great way to save yourself time and effort  in the kitchen and a healthy way to serve dinner.  Many dishes, particularly soups and stews, can literally be thrown together.  For aesthetic reasons, you can do a little bit of prepping beforehand, such as cooking onions, or browning meat, but it's not essential.
