Christine lost weight with a prior Weight Watchers program

A decade ago Christine could eat absolutely anything. But when her metabolism slowed, her weight crept up to 181; depressed and desperate, she determined to make over her horrendous eating habits.

One day just recently, someone jokingly asked my husband how he liked his hot new wife. "No," said my husband, "this is my old wife, the one I married. I've got her back again!" When we first met, I was 118 pounds and I could eat anything, anytime, and did. Unfortunately, that is much less of a blessing than you might imagine, because I developed some really horrendous eating habits. Between two difficult pregnancies, developing hypothyroidism, and my devil-may-care attitude toward food, I let my weight creep up to 181 by the time I was 33.

"Is That Fat Chick Really Me?"
Finally, I'd had enough. I looked in the mirror one day and said, "Is that fat chick really me? Eech!" I just really, really didn't want to get any heavier. Since I home-school my daughters, I'm extremely busy, but also at home a lot, so I subscribed to Weight Watchers Online and started following the POINTS® Weight-Loss System.

I Started Out Strict
I'm a really regimented person, so I started out being super, super, super strict. I measured absolutely everything, printed out as many recipes as I could, and followed them to the letter. I was hard on myself because I worried that if I lightened up I'd fall off the wagon, yet I never burned out because from the start I consistently lost two pounds a week.* That kept me so motivated!

Lightening up with the Flex Plan
Then the Flex Plan arrived, and having the weekly POINTS Allowance was a great improvement for people like me who are afraid to lighten up alone. Finally I could give myself a break! I started to cook more adventurously, especially when I learned you can liven up foods with all kinds of spices without adding POINTS values. And to earn Activity POINTS values, my husband and I joined the YMCA — the girls stay in the daycare and like it so much they complain if we skip a class!

The hardest thing about applying to be a Success Story was finding a before picture and remembering how depressed I used to feel every time I looked in the mirror. Today I've morphed back into the skinny girl from my wedding. I've gone through childbirth and college, but maintaining my weight was truly my toughest journey and most rewarding accomplishment. I look like myself again!

Greatest purchase: Her second (!) crockpot. She uses them for fuss-free dinners at least twice a week.

Best breakfast makeover: A breakfast quesadilla from WeightWatchers.com rather than a fast food sausage biscuit!

Coolest spice-rack revelation: McCormick Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning. She rubs it on a whole chicken – inside and out – for mouthwatering flavor.

Favorite online tool: The Recipe Builder, to get the real dirt on recipes: She found out that one serving of her kids' favorite pancakes packed a POINTS value of eight — yikes! — while a serving of her dad's special macaroni salad had a POINTS value of less than two. Who knew?

What keeps her from skipping the gym: Having an exercise buddy (her husband) — it keeps them going because chances are they won't both want to flake out on the same day.
