Fighting for Her Right to be Healthy

 This is the best thing that I’ve ever done for myself and for my family.

Jenny lost weight on a prior Weight Watchers program and on the PointsPlus® program.

Jenny had always been a yo-yo dieter. Though she was thin in high school, in college she gained the freshman 50 instead of the freshman 15. When she got married and started having children, the weight just kept coming. Since she joined Weight Watchers meetings and started following the Plan, she’s made changes to her life and lost the extra weight.

In Jenny’s words:

I woke up one day and realized how much my two young children were missing out on their childhood and how much of their childhood I was missing. I couldn’t go to water parks because I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin. I wanted to be able to chase them, go to fairs, play sports and go all the places that kids like to go. But I had no energy. And at that point even walking was uncomfortable.

Why Weight Watchers?

I’d tried several other diets in the past. But the reason I chose Weight Watchers is because all the others diets were just that—diets. Weight Watchers is not. This is life. I’ve learned to live my life in a healthy way and enjoy it. I’m not missing out on anything. I get to make the choices. Weight Watchers gave me the right to choose what I want to eat and when I want to eat it.

Meetings matter

I started Weight Watchers through an at-work program, so I was with a lot of people I already knew. But I’ve gone to at-work meetings and regular meetings. It was a wonderful experience for me to be around people who were just like me, people who were there for a purpose and a reason that I could relate to. They knew what I was going through. It was great to have that camaraderie with people that were just like me. There’s no shame or anything to be embarrassed about when trying your first meeting. You’re there to make a change and that’s something you should be proud of.

Making changes

Even when I started Weight Watchers I was a fruit and vegetable person, but I never cared about portion control. Sure, I’d eat some fast food, but I’d eat the fast food and the fruits and vegetables. Now I’ve cut out some of the unhealthy things. Fast food is now a rarity in our home. My kids don’t ask for it very often anymore because they know it’s not part of a healthy lifestyle. We’ve switched to lean proteins, a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables from our local produce farm.

Getting active

When I first started the program, I didn’t do a lot of activity. I focused more on what I was eating and portion control. As I got further along I started with walking and then running and now I do local races and have even done Warrior Dash!

Staying flexible

I love the flexibility of the Plan. Some days are more difficult than others, but you can choose: “Today I might work out a little bit more because I know I have a very hectic day tomorrow. So tomorrow I might be a little more strict with what I’m eating. It’s just about taking that time for yourself and respecting yourself enough to make those choices.

Becoming a Leader

I decided to become a Leader because I really wanted to help others. Throughout my journey I met a lot of very wonderful Leaders and members who were always there to offer me support and encouragement. I really wanted to give that same support and encouragement to others who are experiencing the struggles I faced in my own life. Being able to inspire others to make changes in their lives keeps me going.

Tiny perks

I’ve changed my entire wardrobe since I lost the weight. I wear heels every day to work and I dress in a much more professional way. I’m an accountant so that’s an important part of my life. I hardly wear tennis shoes and jeans anymore. I feel much more professional.

The best part

The best part about losing the weight is what I can do now versus what I could do then. I’m able to play with my kids. My daughter told me the other day that I’m so much more fun now, that I can do so many more things with them that I couldn’t do before. This is the best thing that I’ve ever done for myself and for my family.
