Dinorah lost weight with a prior Weight Watchers program

After joining Weight Watchers like clockwork every January, Dinorah finally decided to get serious. In 2008 she got on track and lost the weight.

Looking good for summer was always important to me. This is why, without fail, I would join Weight Watchers and begin following the Plan every January. I would lose some weight and then convince myself I could manage my weight on my own. I couldn’t. The weight always came back because I never really changed my lifestyle. I realized that going to Weight Watchers meetings was the difference.

Changing her lifestyle with eTools

In 2008 I decided to change my thinking and my behavior. I had to stop making excuses for missing my meetings and use the tools available to me. The Weight Watchers eTools made a big difference in the way I was following the Plan. The PointsPlus® Calculator is fool proof and a lifesaver. The Weight Tracker also gave me the ability to see the “bigger picture" of my progress during those weeks when I might have had a gain. I also explored the Community to find like-minded people with the same struggles as me.

Quitting smoking

On top of trying to lose weight, I was also trying to quit smoking — not an easy task! I joined a “no smoking" challenge on the Weight Watchers Message Boards and read articles about quitting. I wanted to arm myself with information. When I read that often times people who quit smoking gain weight in the process, I cried. Then I picked myself up and realized I’d have to really commit to the Weight Watchers plan and try even harder to stay on track.

Switching up her routine

When I began to see my weight plateau, I knew I had to make a change. I wanted to really switch up my workout routine, so I began to spend more time at my company’s gym during my lunch hour. They offered a different type of class every day. I was not only reenergized at work, the classes also gave me some variety and really helped combat the possible weight gain associated with my quitting smoking. After making this change, I hit my goal weight and became a Lifetime Member.

Meetings make the difference

The camaraderie you get in the meeting room is unlike any other. It’s just so comforting to know that others have been where you are at this moment, and have the same challenges to overcome. I’ve made some great friendships. The meeting also gives me something to look forward to each week, so I can set small goals for myself.

The best part

My entire wardrobe used to be black and grey — those colors are the most slimming. But now that I’ve lost my extra weight, my closet is a rainbow of colors — red, yellow, coral and turquoise. I never thought I’d be able to be so adventurous with my wardrobe!

Dinorah’s Tips
  • Use the website as a mid-week booster. If you’re not going to a meeting that day, you can always find an interesting topic in the Community.
  • You’re in this fight for you. Make a little extra effort. I wake up early every day to do an abs workout before I go to work. It’s made a huge difference.
  • Take advantage of the recipes on the site. I don’t consider myself a great cook, but the recipes are really easy. They’re also obviously healthy and the PointsPlus values are already figured out for you so you don’t need to think about it.
  • You really can learn to be healthier. It becomes second nature. My family hasn’t seen white bread, rice or pasta in years and we don’t miss it!
